Here’s a quick video tutorial on how Access form subform controls work together showing the ease of setting the simple properties (via the Property Sheet) to manage their relationships which is optional as not all subforms have to be related.

To create a subform or subreport (for reports), you can also use the wizard approach too which steps you through various prompts for you to complete giving you that head start.

This video is actually part of a series of creating and designing Access form subform controls and how to add calculations (using expressions) with other controls and any form of calculation for a form or report always starts the equal ‘=’ sign (the same as with Excel).

In some of my some form designs using subforms, I have no relationships set between main and several subforms as the main form is used as the shell (container) to handle several unrelated processes. It’s a bit like creating a dashboard interface that allows users to stay in one place without the need to navigate between too many screens.
