Creating a Many-to-Many Relationship in an Access Database

A very clear video explanation of how ‘many-to-many‘ relationships works.

I’ve seen many video tutorials on this topic to be both very dry and boring but this tutorial has been kept to within 5 minutes; so no caffeine jabs required!

What’s more important and to the point here that it is easy to understand how you create a relationship of this type and note that in Microsoft Access you will need three tables where the ‘middle‘ table becomes the junction to the outer tables handling the ‘many‘ sides from both the outer tables creating that indirect ‘many-to-many‘ relationship.

I use a similar  process of an Order document related to Order Items which is related to Products to form a ‘many-to-many‘ relationship (between Order and Products).

I’ve wriiten several eBooks in Access and this topic is covered in more detail (with all the other RDBMS concepts) in “Understanding Access Database Relationships” – Check it out!

One Response to Creating a Many-to-Many Relationship in an Access Database

  1. As the author of the video, thanks! I try to keep things both clear and interesting. Sometimes it doesn’t always work, but I do try. :-) Thanks again!
